5 Safety Tips You Should Know!

Safety is a vital part of self care, and knowing how to keep yourself safe is incredibly important in maintaining mental and physical security. Today I’ll be going over some small safety tips that can go a long way in ensuring that you stay safe.

Just as a heads up, some of these tips may only be applicable to iPhone users.

Tip #1: iPhone Emergency SOS Feature

How this feature works is that when the SOS feature is activated, your iPhone automatically calls the local emergency number. In some countries and regions, this may vary; in mainland China for example, you can choose to call the police, fire, or ambulance.

After your emergency call ends, your phone also alerts your saved emergency contacts with a text message including your current location, sending out updates when your location changes.

You can change how to start SOS mode in your settings based on your preferences; you can activate the SOS feature under dire circumstances by rapidly clicking your phone’s on/off button 5 times in a row, or by holding the lower volume button on the left side of your phone and the on/off button until the countdown for the emergency call begins.

Tip #2 & #3: Staying Safe With Uber/Lyft/etc.

Many of us often use transportation methods like Uber and Lyft to take us places, but there are extra measures you can take for staying safe.

First, before entering the car, take a picture of the car’s license plate and send it to your friends/family.

My other tip is to have a GPS/Google Maps route for your destination open throughout your ride to ensure that your driver is taking you to the correct destination. Be aware though that your driver may just be on a different route!

Tip #4: Life360

Life360 is an app that many of my friends and family use themselves!

The app uses its navigation and GPS features to alert people of the live location of their loved ones. It also has battery alerts if someone’s battery is below 5%, and has car crash detection features, and an SOS feature.

I highly recommend everyone to download Life360 and add their family members in the app!

You can download it from the App store or their website: https://www.life360.com

Tip #5: Texting and Hands-Free Safety

If you’re ever in a situation where you can’t use your hands or make an emergency voice call, there are two other ways you can contact 911.

You can directly text 911 in your iPhone’s messages app if it’s safer under specific circumstances. Just set 911 as the text recipient, type your emergency in the text field, and hit send.

You can also directly call 911 through Siri, which is a quick and hands-free way to call the police. Just say, “Hey Siri, call 911.”
